NIEUWSBRIEF – februari 2012
Twitter: @OrSportsForum

8 maart, Olympisch Vuur Jaarcongres 2012

Ontwikkeling matchmaking portal – oproep fotomateriaal

A) Architecture, master planning, landscaping,
B) Construction, engineering, consultancy,
C) Transport & Logistics, support systems, safety & security, crowd control,

OSF will develop a new digital Orange Sports & Business Forum platform for sharing knowlegde (business, government and sports) and matchmaking. NL based businesses and organisations will be able to present themselves in the context of Holland Branding and the Dutch Olympic ambitions.

December 15th in The Hague, the first meeting took place of OSF together with the FME-CWM’s Task Force Euro 2012. After being welcomed by Peter Lips of AgenstchapNL, OSF’s director Ronald Kramer informed the meeting (> 50 participants) of the many discussions that took place in 2011. In particular, he referred to the cooperation with FME-CWM and the different ministries (VWS, EL&I, BZ, I&M) and umbrella organisations (NOC*NSF, VNO-NCW etc.) involved. OS(B)F has received recognition as a platform where sports, business and government work together, in order to expand the international business of its participants. While using the Olympic ambitions of the Netherlands as a lever for international presentation and business. OSF has been asked by the Ministry of EL&I to set up a digital platform (website) on which the participants can share information, reflecting the sports ambitions of The Netherlands.

Ruben Houkes, Olympic medallist in judo and owner of 2Basics informed the meeting of his ideas on how to develop cooperation between grassroots sports and export. Leaving the participants with some thoughts for the future.

The presentations (updates in Dutch of the state of affairs in relation to the upcoming major events and relevant countries) of the meeting where sent to all OSF and FME-CWM Task Force Euro 2012 particpants. We where also informed of the appointment of Rob Baan by the All Indian Football Federation to draft a plan for the development of youth soccer in India, and how OSF operates in day-to-day practice. First item on the agenda in 2012 is a sports trade mission to Qatar (2022, WC Football).

2011 has been a year of pioneering in cooperation between sports, business and government. 2012 will be the year in which we will test and proof the succes of this cooperation.

On October 10th 2011, PSV Eindhoven, the AIFF and the OSF concluded a deal to appoint Rob Baan as the technical director of the AIFF for the upcoming two years.
Almost two years ago the Orange Sport Forum was established to bring sport expertise to emerging markets. India was from day one our main target markets.
Since then, we have established a number of useful contacts in India. The appointment of Mr Baan is for us an important milestone in our route to India. We hope this will significantly contribute to the development of the soccer sport in India. Mr Baan will be entrusted with drafting a master plan for youth development and the creation of soccer talent centers. The talents we develop in these centers will be the core of the future Indian national team that must be able to compete with the best on international level. We have a strong believe this step will lead to new opportunities for Indo-Dutch cooperation, especially in the area of sports.

Tapping the craze for football in India seems to be the latest trend among western countries and Dutch sports management company Orange Sports Forum (OSF) will be providing the All India Football Federation. (AIFF) with a technical team which will supervise the talent in the country at the grassroots level.

The much touted technical director – who was not only going to personally supervise the grassroots development of the game, but also bridge the gap in communication between the senior team coach and the junior teams – will now be replaced by a team of directors who will calculate the progress and prepare reports for the federation to assess.

Although the federation has refused to go on record with the development, saying that only initial talks have been held so far, an AIFF official confirmed that they are impressed with the plan of the Holland- based group and that the deal is on.

“The deal is set to be signed. Although the company arrive in India at the end of the month for a presentation for the federation, it will be more of an effort from their side to understand the football culture in the country and the infrastructural conditions,” the official told MAIL TODAY.

“They will be travelling across the country and get accustomed to the Indian culture. Although the basic principles of the programme will be same as that of the Dutch style of play – something which is famous all over the world – it will be customised to suit India’s needs,” he noted.

“It is a win-win situation for Indian football. Not only does OSF pump in money for the technical team to operate in India, but if all goes well, legends like Guus Hiddink could be coming over to chalk out grassroots development plan for the country. Honestly, we don’t have the financial feasibility to approach someone like Hiddink.”

According to the official, it is the keenness shown by European corporate, who operate in India, which really set the ball rolling for the plan to see the light of the day. “OSF has received a lot of offers from European companies who are eager to invest in the Indian market. They are really eager to tap the market in the country. They feel that India is one country whose potential in the world market is untouched. “They feel being associated with the federation would help them in their endeavour to tap the Indian market. It is no surprise that the game has a huge following in the country, despite the national team not doing that well,” he said.

On May 25th about 20 people/organisations attended the Orange Sports Forum meeting at the United Broadcast Facilities’ offices in Hilversum.

At this meeting the parties discussed the Orange Sports Forum’s agenda. The Orange Sports Forum is charged with developing a network of and for Dutch companies and organizations, in order that they can widely market their knowledge and expertise on sports to (up and coming) markets and relations, with their counterparts in these up and coming countries.

The Orange Sports Forum wants to develop into a network where sport associations, sport technical companies and businesses with a strong affinity for sport can meet. The companies and organizations can share knowledge within this network and profile in the field of sport expertise and, where necessary, develop business opportunities together. The persons present stated that the establishment of such a platform in the Netherlands seems definitely significant.

The sports market in India is considered as one of the first markets that will be explored by Orange Sports Forum. This market is in full development and therefore offers great opportunities. We want to research how we, the Orange Sports Forum, can work together to apply these opportunities and how we can establish a structural relation with the Indian sports industry.

This means that we, in the near future, want to apply ourselves together with the other participants, to establish and extend the Orange Sports Forum network. Secondly we will research how we can give further shape to our relations with Sports India.
